The long answer is that we want to make newspaper printing accessible to as many people as possible which means offering to print the lowest quantity we can for the cheapest price. At the moment we can only do short runs by using a black and white digital newspaper press. Using this method we can offer 5 copies for just £35 including delivery and VAT.

At 500 copies it’s more cost effective to print using a traditional colour newspaper press. Whether we put colour or black and white files or ink through this machine is irrelevant, it uses the same process and costs the same.

Are you really trying to tell us that 500-up mono really costs the same as full colour?

That suggests you are putting a huge premium on the plates and the make-ready rather than the paper and ink.

Which is fine if that’s your model. But you might want to explain to someone who wants 500 mono why they should pay the same as someone who is getting full colour.
